Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a deeply relational approach to healing that helps individuals and couples understand and transform emotional patterns that keep them feeling disconnected, unheard, or stuck.
Rooted in attachment theory, EFT focuses on the ways we seek safety and connection with others—and how those patterns can be disrupted by past hurts, stress, or unmet needs. Through gentle exploration, EFT helps uncover the emotions that lie beneath conflict, defensiveness, or withdrawal, allowing people to express their needs and fears in ways that foster closeness rather than distance.
At Curated Counselling, EFT is not about “fixing” communication—it’s about rebuilding emotional safety, deepening understanding, and creating new, secure ways of relating.
EFT works because it goes beyond surface-level conflict and focuses on what’s happening underneath—the longing for connection, safety, and reassurance that drives so much of human behaviour.
Rather than teaching quick tools or techniques, EFT helps clients recognize the emotional cycles they get caught in and guides them to respond to each other with greater compassion and vulnerability. By transforming moments of disconnection into opportunities for closeness, EFT helps repair attachment ruptures and restore trust.
This process is supported by neuroscience and attachment research, which show that emotional safety and secure connection are essential for psychological and physiological well-being.
